Why I Do This Work

JoAnne’s Story

A few years ago, someone close to me experienced a devastating loss. Her husband passed away suddenly in a car accident, and she was left to manage everything – from estate matters to household finances – while still in the thick of grief. I did everything I could to help, even as a CFP, but I quickly realized just how many gaps exist in the support available to people after a loss. There were so many questions, and not enough guidance.

That experience stayed with me. And as time went on, I noticed a pattern: more and more families in my life – my own included – were navigating loss without a clear plan or a trusted advisor to turn to. When my father-in-law and my own father both passed away unexpectedly in their 60s, I saw firsthand how hard it is to know when and how to step in to support the surviving spouse. These weren’t just financial moments – they were deeply emotional ones.

That’s why we created Empowered Path. It’s our way of offering clarity and calm in the middle of the chaos. I believe that with the right planning and support, families can avoid much of the frustration and confusion that often follows a loss. This isn’t just about financial literacy – it’s about giving people the space, support, and tools to move forward with confidence.

For Judy, financial planning is about more than numbers – it’s about people. She understands that when someone is grieving the loss of a spouse or loved one, the financial decisions that follow can feel overwhelming and deeply emotional. That’s why she’s made it her mission to walk alongside clients during these tender times, offering both expert guidance and genuine care.
With a calm, steady presence and years of experience, Judy helps individuals and families sort through the financial pieces after a loss – whether it’s navigating estate matters, updating plans, or simply figuring out the next step. She takes the time to listen, to understand, and to ensure her clients feel supported, not rushed.

Judy believes that everyone deserves to feel secure and cared for, especially when life takes an unexpected turn. Her goal is to ease the burden, restore confidence, and help people rebuild – financially and emotionally – at a pace that feels right for them.

Why I Do This Work

Judy’s Story

I didn’t become a financial planner because I loved charts and spreadsheets – though I do enjoy a good plan. I chose this path because I saw firsthand how overwhelming life becomes after losing a spouse.
When my mom was widowed at 47, and my mother-in-law at 48, I watched two strong, capable women suddenly faced with a flood of financial decisions during the most emotionally vulnerable time of their lives. It wasn’t just about money – it was about fear, uncertainty, and figuring out how to start over. I stood beside them as they navigated everything from insurance paperwork and pensions to managing a home on their own. I saw how much comfort came from simply having someone they could trust – someone who would listen, explain without judgment, and help them take things one step at a time.
That experience changed me. It shaped not only how I approach my work, but why I do it. Today, I specialize in helping individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Whether you’re recently widowed or adjusting to life after a major loss, I’m here to help you make sense of the financial pieces – at your own pace, with compassion and clarity.
No one should have to face this journey alone. I’m here to walk it with you.
